Pre-School Ballet (Pre Primary)
This is a class specifically designed for the pre-school aged child, allowing them to take their first ballet steps in a fun and creative class appropriate for their age.
The only item of kit required for this class is a pair of leather ballet shoes, pink for girls and black for boys.
The children come wearing their own clothes, as long as they are comfortable to move in. Parents are invited towards the end of term to come and watch a class to see how their child has progressed.
Ballet
Once the children reach school age they are ready to progress onto the next level of ballet.
At this stage they start to wear our regulation ballet uniform, details of which are on the uniform page. Parents are invited towards the end of term to come and watch a class to see how their child has progressed.
Cecchetti and RAD Ballet
We will start covering more formal ballet steps, which lead to them being able to enter classical ballet exams if they wish.
We study Cecchetti and RAD Ballet which both offer Class Examinations and Performance Awards providing ideal opportunities for those attending classes for recreational purposes on a once a week basis. For children wishing to study in greater depth, there are the more technically demanding Grade Examinations. In all the children's work a steady build up and safe practice are of great importance.
Modern Jazz
We run modern jazz classes, which combine technical jazz and stretching work along with fun routines to up to date music.
We can also offer the opportunity to take ISTD modern exams if required.
Tap Dance
We suggest children start tap from about the age of 5 years.
Initially we teach them the basics in a fun way, progressing onto ISTD Tap syllabus, again with the option of taking exams
Contemporary Class for Senior students
This class is open to our older students.
Contemporary dance is an expressive style which combines elements of several dance genres, including jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. It explores expressive movement, pushing boundaries using strength, flexibility and power in floor work and movement.
Shows
We believe that, as dance is a performance art, it is so important for the children to be able to experience performing on a stage.
With this in mind we put on a large scale production every two years.
We believe the experiences the children gain by taking part in one of these productions give the some valuable, long lasting, happy memories as well as building self confidence and teaching them to work as part of a team.
In addition to school shows we also have our own Dance Company
Muse Dance Company
Members of the company meet once a week to rehearse large scale choreographed dances which we perform at a number of events during the year.
In the past we have performed at Sadlers Wells Theatre and The O2 arena as well at many local and charity events.
